Jury Duty FAQs
Wayne County Court of Common Pleas
The following are some commonly asked questions about jury duty in the Common Pleas Court. Hopefully, this will answer some of the questions you may have. If not, please ask your bailiff.
How Long is my Jury Duty?
You are on call for a two-month term. That doesn't mean you are here for two months. You will receive a summons for an actual trial date. To find out whether you are required to report as summoned, you need to call the night before your scheduled jury duty. The recording will accept collect calls. A recorded message will instruct you. If the recording tells you to report, please check in at the Clerk of Courts office the next morning as directed. If the recording tells you not to report, you don't need to do anything until you get another summons.
The phone numbers for the jury duty recordings are:
Jurors for 8:30 AM - 330-264-4182
Jurors for 8:45 AM - 330-264-9944
Please check your Summons for the correct time of your Jury Duty.
Where should I park?
You may park in any of the parking lots indicated on your notice for jury duty. Do not park in "permit only" areas of the parking lots. Use the 3-hour parking areas only. The court is not responsible for parking violations. If you have special needs, please contact your bailiff for a blue parking pass.
What are the hours?
Court is usually in session from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a break for lunch between noon and 1:00 PM. However, the hours depend on what's happening in the trial. For example, when the jury starts to deliberate, you may be here into the evening if your deliberations require it.
How much do I get paid and how do I receive it?
The pay is $30.00 per day if you are seated; $10.00 if you have to report and are excused. You will get a check in the mail after the end of your term. To receive payment, you must check in with the Clerk of Courts office every day you're here.
How did I get selected?
Voter registration lists are fed into a computer after the November election and prospective jurors are randomly selected. Your name was on the list for this term.
Who do I contact if I have a problem?
The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have a problem or question regarding jury duty, call your bailiff at the number below:
